POEM - N Bonnie Brae St

People feel a need to take the edge

off of reality;

that’s how I know this modern life

isn’t the one we’re meant to live

How much deeper would our connections be

if we weren’t taught shame for bliss?

I want to know who you’d be

if not for those afterlife lies,

those single-love myths,

and those wealth lullabies

You’re dying to fuck someone

without a mask on,

so entrust your true face to mine

The only secrets I’d keep would be

there to protect you,

until you’re ready to tell me not to

Guess that makes you worth dying for,

he says as if unaware

I tire of pretending that you aren’t

all I care to think about

I have two halves a mind to tell you

that every moment you aren’t

staring back at me is one I consider

to be wasted

I don’t want the hourglass to run out of sand

without feeling like my existence was

building to some lived crescendo,

and you are the peak which whispers

warm invites onto my eardrum

You exhale yourself so close to my brain

that I feel you making waves of the ripples

We were photons kissing for the first time

as our star went supernova

What I fear far worse than death

is another eternity spent apart from you

For you are proof that reality

was not supposed to be edged;

it was intended to act as painless flames,

engulfing us while we dance

to the blending colors of our own

rebirthing demise
